Birth control ring calendar
Schedules for the listed products come from each product's own labelPage updated Sources
Enter the day your current ring went in. You see the day to take it out, the ring-free week and the day the next ring goes in, worked out from your ring's label.
Select your ring and enter the day your current ring went in. The result lists the day to take it out, the ring-free week and the day the next ring goes in, for as many as 6 cycles. You can print the list or add the days to your calendar; the events just say "Reminder".
The tool did not load. Reloading the page may help; the explanation on this page works without it.
Which rings this calendar is for
It is for the monthly ring: NuvaRing, EluRyng and a generic etonogestrel and ethinyl estradiol ring in the US, and NuvaRing in the UK. The generic ring's schedule is checked against a single generic label (Teva). The calendar is not for Annovera.
How the ring schedule works
Each ring label describes a cycle of 28 days (4 weeks): the ring stays in, then comes out for a ring-free week.
- The ring comes out 21 days after it went in, on the same day of the week.
- The next ring goes in 28 days after the previous ring went in, again on the same day of the week.
- The US labels, and the UK patient leaflet, also say to take the ring out at about the same time of day as it went in. The tool shows this as a note. It doesn't work with clock times.
- For NuvaRing in the UK, the note comes from the UK patient leaflet, which also says to put the next ring in at approximately the same time.
Reading your ring dates
- The day your ring went in is the first day of the cycle. Each date after it is counted in whole days.
- Any date before today is marked as passed.
- Enter the day the ring you are using now went in. The tool accepts a date up to 27 days ago.
Situations the ring calendar can't handle
This calendar only covers the usual cycle for a ring you already use as directed. Please don't use it if:
- this is your first ring, or you are starting again after a break;
- you are switching from another method, or changed product during this cycle;
- your ring came out, broke or got lost, or you had another problem with it;
- you use rings in a different pattern from the leaflet, for example skipping the ring-free week;
- you recently gave birth, had a miscarriage or had an abortion;
- you take, or recently stopped taking, another medicine;
- you think you could be pregnant;
- you aren't sure which day your current ring went in.
Instead, check the leaflet in your ring's box and see where to get help.
This tool does not assess protection from pregnancy.
A worked example
Here is an example with a made-up date. A ring that went in on Thursday, 11 February 2027 comes out on Thursday, 4 March 2027. The next ring goes in on Thursday, 11 March 2027.
